Compression Therapy

What is Compression Therapy?

You may have heard about wearing compression socks during a long flight. If you are into health and wellness, compression therapy may have been something to try in order to help with blood flow, prevent vein disease, or as a great recovery treatment for athletes. Besides of being a great tool to take care of yourself, copression therapy is not just socks, and it is not just for athletes.

Compression therapy is an effective method by which controlled pressure is applied to the extremities in order to increase blood flow and the efficiency of the lymphatic and venous systems. BlueWave Center uses the newer technology from NormaTec, the Pulse Pro that uses dynamic compression to mobilize fluid and improve circulation.

The Normatec Pulse Pro uses air pressure massage to relieve muscle aches or pain and temporarily increase circulation to the treated area. Programs are customized for targeted attention where you need it most. This will include personalized sessions for rehab, recovery, and injury treatment to improve your body’s maneuverability and enhance your longevity. The Normatec Pulse Pro can be programed to target the feet, legs, quads, hamstrings, IT band, glutes, lower back, hands, wrists, biceps, triceps, rotator cuffs, lats, and base of the neck.

Recognizing that recovery is an integral part of every athlete and fitness enthusiast, the NormaTec® Recovery System was created by a physician bioengineer to enhance blood flow and speed recovery. NormaTec compression uses a specific pulse technology that employs three techniques to help with the body’s recovery process. The three techniques are gradients, pulsing compression, and distal release.

Pulsing compression: NormaTec uses pulsing compression as compared to “static compression.” The pulsing pattern is more effective because it copies the way the muscles pump in the arms and legs. It helps move the fluid in the limbs.

Gradients: NormaTec utilizes pressures to keep fluid in the limbs from being moved in the wrong direction.

Distal release: NormaTec “releases the hold pressures” once they’re not needed in order to prevent backflow. The NormaTec method releases the hold pressure as soon as possible, allowing each part of the limb/leg to have the most rest time it can without a huge pause between the cycles.

Compression therapy is beneficial to anyone who spends long periods of time sitting, standing or traveling on airplanes or in any type of vehicle. It is a great preventive tool for vein diseases too. Even pregnant women can also benefit from it since some of them suffer from achy, swollen legs during pregnancy.

NormaTec compression therapy is especially beneficial for athletes. Recovery is a crucial part of any training regimen, and NormaTec helps maximize circulation, helping you to feel better, train harder, and most importantly, recover faster.
